Interior design in Assam has moved well past the standard builder-grade finish. Homeowners are asking for spaces that feel warm, regionally rooted, and low-maintenance for the humid climate. Here are five directions we're seeing repeatedly this year.
1. Warm wood over cold white
Instead of stark white modular units, clients are choosing warm oak and walnut laminate finishes paired with matte black or brass hardware — a look that ages well and hides everyday wear better than glossy white.
2. Traditional Assamese motifs, modern application
Jaapi-inspired ceiling medallions, Muga-silk-toned upholstery, and bamboo accent panels are appearing in living rooms — a nod to regional identity without turning the space into a museum piece.
3. Moisture-resistant material choices
Given Guwahati's monsoon humidity, more homeowners are specifying WPC (wood-plastic composite) for bathroom and kitchen shutters instead of plain MDF, along with anti-fungal paint in ground-floor rooms.
4. Layered lighting instead of a single ceiling light
Cove lighting in false ceilings, under-cabinet kitchen lighting, and warm-white accent lamps are replacing the single bright tube-light setup, making rooms feel considerably more finished.
5. Multi-use rooms
With hybrid work here to stay, a spare bedroom doubling as a study with a fold-away desk is one of the most requested layouts in our 2026 interior projects.
